Mottega at High Point Market

High Point Market is like the New York Fashion Week of the interior design and home furnishings industries. For one week, vendors, designers, and retailers from across the country descend on High Point, North Carolina for a market like you wouldn’t believe! This year, Mottega will once again be showing with Arteriors Home in IHFC H-320, April 21st-26th. If you are attending, please stop by and say hello! We’d love to meet you and learn more about your business.

You will also have the chance to see each piece up close and in person as well as learn about the many custom options in our line of exquisite lamps. It’s hard to fully understand the quality and attention to detail in each lamp through a picture on the computer. Seeing in person really is believing!

Mottega and Dwell with Dignity at the Thrift Studio

Photography by: Lance Selgo with Unique Exposure Photography, Design by Michelle Nussbaumer of Ceylon et Cie

This week launches the greatly anticipated 2nd annual Thrift Studio by Dwell with Dignity in Dallas, TX. What’s Thrift Studio, you ask? Here’s a brief description in their own words:

“Thrift Studio is a bi-annual 30 day pop up shop created to provide financial viability and fundraising for Dwell with Dignity through selling the overstock of donated, gently used furniture, housewares, accessories and high end designer finds to the public.”

And what is Dwell with Dignity, you might ask next? Again, we’ll let them do the talking:

“Dwell with Dignity is a non-profit group of Interior Designers and volunteers dedicated to creating soothing, inspiring homes for families struggling with homelessness and poverty. We provide and install home interiors for families that include furnishings and art, bedding and kitchen supplies, and food in the pantry.  Our goal is to bring good design to those less fortunate, inspiring them to maintain a standard of living they can be proud of and thrive in.”

Pretty awesome stuff, right? We thought so, which is why Mottega has chosen to donate a few of our lamps to this Spring’s Thrift Studio fundraiser event. If you’re in the Dallas area, stop by anytime between  April 14th – May 12th, Tuesday – Saturday from 10AM – 5:30PM.  Sunday noon- 5:00PM.

And if shopping with the crowds isn’t enough for you, purchase tickets to attend one of their preview events beginning this evening:

From My Perspective… Traveling

A significant portion of my work includes traveling overseas through Europe and Asia sourcing materials, manufacturers and gaining loads of inspiration for product development. I take my camera with me everywhere and always have my eyes open for the next fascinating detail, color or texture to grab my attention. Much of what I see directly influences the products that my design team and I create for Arteriors Home and Mottega, but there are many more moments while traveling that don’t necessarily provide any specific product inspiration but simply add to my general experience as a creative individual instead. These experiences are hugely important! Let me explain…

I strongly believe that design is more than just that hot-selling lamp or table… it’s a way of seeing the world! The more I expose myself to different cultures and environments, the broader my perspective and creative horizon stretches, allowing me to think more freely outside of the box. By traveling the world, I’m able to observe uniquely different lifestyles from my own and consider possibilities far beyond my Texas experience.

These photographs below were taken while traveling through India last year. You would never see a herd of cows wandering the streets like this in Texas! (well, not in the city at least). I remember how unusual and hilarious that was for me… just one of many experiences I’ll never forget while traveling through Asia!

Dreamy Places

One of our favorite Pinterest boards to curate is our “Dreamy Places” board. We fill it full of images of far off places in exotic lands that we can only dream of visiting and other locales that are less exotic but just as stunning! The funny thing is, Mark (our CEO and founder) actually does visit some of these places while traveling for work!! It has become one of his greatest sources of inspiration for new designs and products over the years. You should see his folder of travel photos… talk about an impressive archive!

While pinning away in our happy corner of the web, we can’t help but also think about all of you out there viewing our pins and considering your own travels. With Spring break right around the corner (or perhaps even in progress) and summer vacations approaching not long after that, beautiful destinations are probably on many of our minds.

So, we’d like to know… what are your favorite places to travel and explore? Or where do you dream of visiting more than anything else? It’s okay to day-dream for a moment. Indulge yourself!

(And if you feel like pinning along with us, you can follow our “Dreamy Places” board HERE)

From the Archive… Project Gadabout

We decided to mine the archive of cool blog mentions for today’s post. Project Gadabout is definitely cool and created one of our favorite blog posts featuring Mottega lamps this time last year. We LOVE Miss Poppy’s playful presentation of our customization process! What do you think… does this make the whole thing more fun or what?!

In the Home of… Robert Leluex

We are always so happy to see our lamps living comfortably in a beautiful new home! Robert Leleux, the features editor of Lonny Magazine, was kind enough to share a photograph of his Mottega selections in the recently restored historic home of his grandparents in Lebanon, TN. The story doesn’t end there, though… of course! Robert is also the best-selling author of a new book, The Living End, “which recounts how his family coped — and healed — during his grandmother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s”. The history-rich family home plays a significant role in the story.

Read the overview of Robert’s book on Barnesandnoble.com and browse photos from the entire house in The Tennessean’s article about Robert and his family home. It looks like such a stunning place to live and visit!

Thank you so much for sharing such a precious part of your life, Robert!
